Islamabad, Sep 2: Through a public-private collaboration, Pakistan Railways (PR) has brought the Sir Syed Express service back online. A PR spokesperson said that the first train, which had 16 coaches, left on Sunday and traveled via Faisalabad from Karachi to Rawalpindi.
On board, extra precautions have been taken to ensure a constant supply of pure water. In addition, complimentary Wi-Fi is offered to passengers to maintain connectivity throughout the trip.
Passengers can purchase tickets for the Sir Syed Express from the comfort of their own homes by using mobile devices. Amir Baloch, the CEO of Railway, expressed optimism for the project and projected that the service will bring in about Rs. 3 billion a year.
He emphasized that Pakistan Railways cannot achieve self-sufficiency and grow its revenue without the public-private partnership model. In the coming weeks, Baloch also aims to introduce ten more trains under such collaborations. However, recent acts of terrorism in Balochistan have caused significant financial losses for Pakistan Railways, as they have interfered with important rail services. The daily loss incurred by the suspension of the Jafar Express is Rs. 12.4 million, and the daily loss incurred by the cessation of the Bolan Mail service is Rs. 1.94 million.
