Pakistan Railways acted decisively on Thursday by suspending nine guards who were reportedly implicated in corruption, including taking bribes from passengers in exchange for preferred seating arrangements.
The action was taken in response to a heated debate sparked by an audio tape that appeared and showed a railway guard accepting bribes from a passenger.In response to the occurrence, Pakistan Railways’ Senior General Manager moved quickly to suspend the ticket checkers and guards involved in the scandal and to launch an investigation.
Nine guards from Multan Division’s traffic and commercial staff were suspended as a consequence of the investigation.Mansoor Safri, who is among those suspended, is charged with enabling unticketed passenger transit from Lahore to Bahawalpur in exchange for bribery.According to reports, Safri, a guard on the Tezgam train, took bribes to get people into AC class at the request of Shahid, another guard.
