Islamabad, July 21, 2025: Pakistan Railways has changed the departure timings for three major trains going from Lahore to Karachi.

As per the new timetable:

  • Business Express will now leave Lahore at 6:30 PM, instead of the earlier 4:30 PM.
  • Karachi Express will depart at 8:00 PM, delayed from its old time of 6:00 PM.
  • Shah Hussain Express will now leave at 10:15 PM, more than an hour later than its previous 9:00 PM slot.

These changes come shortly after Pakistan Railways raised its fares due to rising diesel costs.

Passenger ticket prices have been increased by 2%, while goods transport rates have also gone up. The cost of carrying coal has been raised by 3%, and fertilizer by 2%.

The price of diesel has recently jumped by Rs. 11.37 per liter, adding pressure on Pakistan Railways. Officials say the department now spends an extra Rs. 3.99 million daily on fuel. This adds up to about Rs. 119.5 million each month, further increasing the financial load on railway operations.
