Pakistan has dropped four on the recent Global Peace Index to rank number 144 out of 163 countries, making the country one of the 20 least peaceful countries in the world. The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) compiles the annual ranking by measuring safety, security, ongoing conflicts, and other key indicators of a nation.
On the regional scale, the results were much different, with the United Arab Emirates in position 52, Saudi Arabia in position 90, Sri Lanka in position 97, China in position 98, India in position 115, Bangladesh in position 123, and the United States in position 128. Singapore remained the most peaceful nation in Asia, ranking 6th in the world, although European leaders in the category were led by Portugal (7th), Denmark (8th), Slovenia (9th) and Finland (10th).
Russia was ranked the least peaceful country at the bottom of the index, 163rd, followed by Ukraine, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen and Afghanistan. Israel took its place in the list of the ten least peaceful nations in the world, coming in at number 155.
