Rayan, Azlan star in Pakistan’s show in junior worlds with fresh records, as the national team bowed out of a glorious performance in the World Junior Swimming Championships in Romania.

The record in the 50m Breaststroke was broken by a British-based athelete Rayan Awan when he swam 30.87 as a new national record breaking 30.98 mark set in 1998 by Abdul Aziz Chaudhry. He also swam 1:10.06 in 100m Breast and 2:41.71 in the 200m.

There were record breakers in the medley events as Zlan Sohail wrote a new under-16 record in the 200m and 400m Individual Medley. He registered a time of 2:14.18 in the 200m IM to beat the record of Ahmed Durrani, and a 4:54.68 in the 400m IM to put an end to Amaan Siddiqui in the same year. Zlan took part in 10 different events that included Butterfly 50m (26.72) and the 100m Freestyle (54.73).

Players also went home: Ali Mitha clocked 25.95 in the 50m Butterfly and 25.06 in the 50 m Freestyle and Mohid Sadiq Lone, 1:04.43 in the 100 m Backstroke. The Men had 4x100m Freestyle Relay in 3:47:91 and mixed 4x100m Freestyle coming in at a new national best of 4:10:45.

On the females side, Hareem Malik swan 36.12 m 50m Breaststroke and beat 14-year-old Filmitown Salman in the sprint races. Meher Maqbool and Raaqiah Aqeel were added in freestyle and backstroke.

Rayan, Azlan lead the way in Pakistan with new records in junior swim worlds, giving the country a good platform to build into its future competitions in the international arena
