Islamabad, June 21, 2025: In a proud academic milestone, Pakistan has once again emerged as the top country in the world for securing Erasmus Mundus Scholarships 2025. This year, an impressive 114 Pakistani students have been selected for the prestigious Erasmus+ Joint Masters programme, funded by the European Union.

What makes this achievement even more historic is the strong female representation—66 of the awardees are women, making up nearly 58% of the total Pakistani recipients. This marks a powerful stride toward gender equality in international higher education.

The Erasmus Mundus programme is among the world’s most competitive scholarship schemes. For 2025, a total of 2,176 students from 137 countries were chosen. Pakistan led the list, ahead of India (96), Bangladesh (95), Mexico (93), Nigeria (75), and Brazil (73)—a clear sign of academic excellence from the Global South.

Compared to 2024, when Pakistan had 189 awardees, this year’s numbers reflect a steady commitment to quality over quantity, with a growing focus on gender balance and inclusion. The Erasmus+ programme offers a fully funded opportunity to pursue master’s degrees at top European universities. It covers tuition, travel, living expenses, and visa support, while also offering international exposure across at least three countries through coursework, internships, and joint research.
