Gold reserves valued at $636 billion have been identified in the soil of Tarbela Dam, according to Hanif Gohar, chairman of Air Karachi and former senior vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Gohar told reporters at the Karachi Press Club that the discovery was formally presented to the Chief of Army Staff, who responded positively. Soil samples were collected from inside the dam and analyzed in laboratories, revealing enough gold to potentially pay off Pakistan’s national debt, Gohar claimed.
The Air Karachi chairman said he has offered WAPDA the opportunity to undertake the project. If declined, his company is ready to invest, extract the gold, and hand it over to the country. Discussions have already been held with dredging experts in Holland and partners in Amsterdam and Canada.

“This discovery and development can provide a major boost to Pakistan’s economy,” Gohar said, stressing that Karachi’s business environment currently operates on the back foot.
