Islamabad Oct 22: Pakistan Utilizes Only 9% of Rehabilitation Funds Allocated for Balochistan. According to officials in the Finance Ministry, the federal government has only spent $20.2 million, or 9%, of the $220 million in donor assistance for post-flood recovery and reconstruction projects in Balochistan.
Although the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project has a $400 million financing approved by the World Bank, Rehabilitation Funds Balochistani government has had difficulty putting the project into action.
Despite ongoing delays, sources stated that Balochistan is anticipated to get a second tranche of $180.7 million after utilizing the first tranche of $210.3 million. According to additional sources, China has authorized a $200 million housing construction grant for the construction of 35,000 homes in Balochistan. Six million of this was set aside for a trial project that would build more than 8,000 dwellings, but the money hasn’t been used to its full potential.
The Water Security and Productivity Improvement Project in Balochistan has received $100 million from the World Bank. According to reports, the federal government has warned that additional funding won’t be made available until these problems are resolved and has asked provincial authorities to establish a more effective framework for quicker project completion.
