Islamabad, 22 April 2025: Veteran Pakistani chef and television personality Zakir Hussain, widely known as Chef Zakir, has passed away at the age of 58 after a prolonged battle with kidney disease.
The news of his death was confirmed by fellow chef Samia Lari.
It was later shared in a moving tribute by Fariha Meraj on social media, where she described him as one of Pakistan’s most iconic culinary figures whose legacy would live on.
Born in 1967, Chef Zakir was a household name across Pakistan and beyond.
His expertise in both local and international cuisine, coupled with his charismatic presence on screen, made him a favourite among cooking enthusiasts.

He became a prominent face on Masala TV, where he hosted numerous cooking shows and taught a wide range of recipes that catered to both beginners and seasoned cooks.

Chef Zakir inspired countless individuals to explore the world of cooking, making complex recipes accessible with his simple instructions and friendly demeanor.
As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in on social media. Fans and fellow chefs expressed deep sorrow, remembering him as a teacher, mentor, and culinary icon.

Many offered prayers and condolences to his family, recalling the joy he brought into homes through his love for food.
His funeral prayers will be held on Tuesday after Asr at Jamia Rashidia in Malir, Saudabad, Karachi. He will be laid to rest at the Saudabad Graveyard.
Chef Zakir leaves behind not only a family but also a generation of food lovers who grew up learning from his kitchen.
His contribution to culinary arts in Pakistan remains unmatched, and his absence will be deeply felt in every home where his recipes became part of family meals.
