Islamabad 30 July: In a significant development for Pakistani travelers, the International Driving License (IDL) issued by Pakistan has been recognized in 132 countries worldwide.
This expansion allows Pakistani citizens to drive legally across a diverse range of destinations, from popular tourist hubs to business centers, without the need for additional permits in most cases.
The list of countries includes major destinations such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as European nations like Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. The recognition also extends to countries in Africa, South America, and Asia, providing Pakistani drivers with unprecedented mobility for tourism, work, and cultural exchange.
To obtain the IDL, applicants must submit documents including a valid Pakistani driving license, passport copies, CNIC, and passport-sized photographs. The process involves biometric verification, a traffic signs test, and a practical driving assessment. The permit is typically issued within a week and remains valid for one year, though some countries may impose additional restrictions based on visa duration.
