The Hong Kong Fellowship Scheme 2026-27 is now accepting applications from international students looking to pursue a fully funded PhD in Hong Kong.
This highly competitive program, run by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, offers generous support to attract outstanding young researchers from around the world.
What the Fellowship Offers
Successful applicants will receive:
- An annual stipend of US$43,690
- A US$1,820 travel and research allowance each year
- Support for up to three years of study
A total of 400 fellowships will be awarded for the 2026/27 academic year. Students needing more than three years to complete their PhD may receive additional support from their university.
Who Can Apply
The fellowship is open to candidates from all countries, regardless of background or prior experience. Applicants must:
- Apply as new, full-time PhD students at one of the eight participating universities.
- Hold a recognized bachelor’s degree.
- Meet the admission requirements of their chosen university.
- Show academic excellence, research potential, communication skills, and leadership qualities.
How to Apply
The application process is two-step:
- Submit an Initial Application via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES) to get a Reference Number.
- Apply to your chosen universities, using the reference number, for up to two programs at one or two universities.
