Islamabad, May 1, 2025: Amid escalating friction between India and Pakistan, the deportation of Pakistani nationals, particularly women, has become a major talking point.

One such case involves Sarada Bai, a Pakistani-born woman who has been living in India for nearly 35 years but has now been ordered to leave the country immediately.

Officials from Odisha’s Bolangir district have confirmed that Sarada Bai’s visa has been revoked, requiring her to return to Pakistan without delay.

Married to Indian citizen Mahesh Kukreja, Sarada has spent decades in India, raising two children who both hold Indian citizenship.

Despite holding important documents such as a voter ID card, Sarada was never officially recognized as an Indian national.

Local police in Bolangir have warned Sarada Bai that if she fails to comply with the deportation order, legal consequences will follow.

This decision aligns with broader government actions taken after the tragic Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

As part of its response, the Indian government has intensified its measures against Pakistani nationals, including halting the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Attari border crossing, and cancelling existing Pakistani visas.

Heartbroken, Sarada Bai has made an emotional plea to Indian authorities, stating, “I have no one left in Pakistan. My passport is extremely old.

I humbly request the government and everyone, with folded hands, to let me remain here. I have two adult children and grandchildren. My home is here — I want to live as an Indian.”

However, despite her appeals, authorities remain firm in their stance, emphasizing that legal rules will be enforced strictly and without exceptions.

Recent updates on the deportation of Pakistani nationals reveal that over 250 Pakistanis have already left India under these tightened measures.

The government’s firm approach is widely seen as a political response to the heightened security concerns following the Pahalgam attack.

This high-profile case of Sarada Bai highlights the human dimension behind diplomatic decisions and sheds light on the personal struggles caught between two nations’ strained relations.

As tensions continue, the fate of many Pakistanis living in India remains uncertain, drawing both national and international attention.
