In a groundbreaking achievement, a young Pakistani innovator has transformed a manual 1000cc car into a smartphone-operated vehicle, with future upgrades aimed at building an AI-powered self-driving car in Pakistan to assist specially-abled individuals.
Muhammad Subhan from Taxila, Punjab, shared his innovation on ARY News’ morning show Bakhabar Savera. He revealed that the car functions through a mobile application already available on Google Play Store, enabling control over steering, brakes, accelerator, and clutch.
“I developed a complete kit within three months and installed it in the vehicle,” Subhan explained. “The system connects with a smartphone app, giving full control of the car’s essential functions.”
Currently, the car is in its initial development stage and does not have sensors. At this phase, it is mostly useful for parking and short-distance maneuvering. Subhan emphasized that his ultimate vision is to empower disabled people to drive vehicles using only their hands through AI technology.
He further added that while the clutch is managed via smartphone, the gear still requires manual shifting. “Right now, the gear is not automated. We shift gears by hand but release the clutch through the app and continue driving,” he said.
The vehicle can also be driven manually. With a simple button press, it connects to the smartphone, and once turned off, the car reverts to standard manual driving.
Looking towards the future, Subhan aims to integrate artificial intelligence in his AI-powered self-driving car in Pakistan. “One day, people will just instruct the car to go to Lahore, Rawalpindi, or any other city, and the vehicle will drive itself to the destination,” he shared enthusiastically.
