Pakistanis could be looking forward to extended holidays in early September, as the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon for 1447 AH is forecast by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on August 24.
With this calculation, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal is expected on Monday, August 25. This places 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, a significant date in the Islamic calendar, on Friday, September 5.
The following day, September 6, is observed as Defence Day, when the nation pays tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces.
In previous years, Defence Day has not been listed as an official public holiday. However, speculation suggests that the government may declare it this year, especially in the wake of Pakistan’s recent victory against India in the May conflict.

If the holiday is confirmed, citizens will have a rare three-day break. September 5 will mark 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, September 6 could be observed as a national holiday, and September 7 will be the regular Sunday closure.
This unique overlap of dates would allow Pakistanis to combine religious observance, national commemoration, and a weekend break into one long stretch of holidays.
