The World of Statistics has released a comprehensive overview of the iPhone Affordability Index, using the newly launched $1,099 Apple iPhone 17 Pro (256 GB) as a reference point.

The index measures how many 8-hour workdays it takes for someone earning the average hourly wage in a country to afford Apple’s flagship smartphone.

Purchasing an Apple iPhone 17 Pro requires just three 8-hour workdays (24 hours) in Luxembourg and Switzerland. In the United States, the effort is slightly higher at four workdays, or 32 hours.

Across most G20 countries, the iPhone Affordability Index remains below 50 workdays, equivalent to 400 hours.

Although the World of Statistics did not include Pakistan in its calculations, Bloom Pakistan estimated how many days one would need to work in the country to afford the iPhone 17 Pro.

How many days Pakistanis need to work?

For this calculation, we considered the minimum wage in Pakistan, set at Rs. 37,000 in the federal capital. However, the iPhone 17 Pro will not cost $1,099 (around Rs. 308,000 at today’s exchange rate); it is likely to cost between Rs. 500,000 and 550,000, or roughly $1,779 (based on the lower end of the expected price).

This means that someone earning Rs. 37,000 per month (for 26 days of work) would need to work 356 days, or almost a full year, to buy an iPhone 17 Pro.
