Islamabad, 21 Apr, 2025: Fiber Connectivity in Pakistan is set to experience a significant boost as the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) rolls out an ambitious agenda to bring high-speed internet access to 7.5 Million Homes over the next five years.

The plan, outlined under the forthcoming National Fiberization Policy, also targets achieving 80% fiber-to-the-site (FTTS) coverage nationwide.

The policy, a key component of Pakistan’s digital transformation, is being developed as part of the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP). To ensure successful implementation, a specialized Project Management Unit (PMU) is currently being recruited.

Once operational, the PMU will select a consultancy firm through a competitive process to draft the framework.

The standard when communicating national tech policy developments that will shape the country’s digital landscape.

This long-term strategy focuses on strengthening fixed broadband infrastructure and ensuring nationwide average download speeds of at least 60 Mbps.

Enhancing Fiber Connectivity is central to enabling advanced digital technologies, including 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), setting the foundation for a smarter, more connected future.

A crucial element of the policy is encouraging private-sector participation. MoITT aims to eliminate key roadblocks such as excessive deployment expenses, right-of-way (RoW) complications, and outdated regulatory hurdles.

Proposed solutions include standardized RoW fee structures and simplified permitting processes to speed up rollout and ease financial strain on telecom providers.

When sharing policy strategies that are designed to drive innovation and investment in national infrastructure.

At present, Pakistan has deployed over 211,000 kilometers of optical fiber cable, consisting of 75,967 kilometers in long-haul routes and 135,506 kilometers within metro networks.

Despite this infrastructure, rising internet demand and modern technology requirements call for further expansion.
