Three new submarine cables hold the promise of extending Pakistan to the world and also provide a massive boost to domestic internet connectivity given that country is India and China have announced that they are laying down new submarine cables and that this will increase and improve connectivity to the world and speed with domestic network itself set to be much improved with three new submarine cables established.
Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, added that it is an initiative beyond faster browsing and will enable innovation, investment, and digital inclusion. The powerful digital infrastructure can be considered as the firm ground of the country to grow economically and compete with others globally.

Bandwidth Expansion
The introduction of cable systems is expected to significantly add to the bandwidth capacity of Pakistan as the demand rises and reduce dependence on ageing cable systems such as AAE-1 and SMW-4 which have experienced the outage phenomenon in the past. The country is also a participant in the world subsea projects 2Africa, Africa-1, PEACE, and MGG-1 comprising together over 206 Tbps bandwidth.
Enabling 5G Expansion
Simultaneously the government will expand doubling the internet spectrum to work on 5G and to accommodate growing traffic in the digital space. Plans to expand antennas to the largest new cable system will be implemented by the end of 2025, which is in synch with increases in spectrum.
Exploitative User Growth
More than 200 million people now have mobile connections in Pakistan where 8 million women are exposed to the internet in the last year alone. Even with the growth, digital services faced losses of Rs. 450 billion in 2024, due to instability of the services.
