Islamabad, Oct 20: Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Imports Reach $246 Million in Q1 FY25. During the first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal year 2024-25, the nation imported $246.472 million worth of mobile phones, representing a negative increase of 18.93 percent when compared to $304.029 million during the same period of the previous fiscal year 2023-24.
In fiscal year 2023–2024, Pakistan imported $1.898 billion worth of mobile phones, up from $570.071 million in fiscal year 2022–2023. Compared to Rs88.945 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year, the government imported mobile handsets worth Rs68.612 billion in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, representing a negative growth of 22.86 percent in rupee terms.
In September 2024, Pakistan’s mobile phones imported $102.629 million worth of mobile phones, up 29.32% on a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis from $79.360 million in August 2024, according to figures issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Imports of Pakistan’s mobile phones increased 17.62% on a year-over-year (YoY) basis, down from $124.576 million in September 2023. From July to September 2024, the nation’s total telecom imports totaled $374.410 million, a 6.17 percent decline from $399.048 million in the same period in 2023.
In September 2024, telecom imports totaled $153.144 million, up 28.92 percent on a month-over-month basis from August 2024’s imports of $118.787 million. In September 2023, total telecom imports were $158.755 million, a negative growth of 3.53% on a year-over-year basis.
During the first eight months (January–August) of 2024, 20.44 million mobile phones were manufactured and built locally by manufacturing/assembling plants, whereas 1.1 million were commercially imported.
According to official figures, 1.49 million mobile phones were produced or assembled domestically in August, whereas 0.1 million were commercially imported. Twenty.44 million mobile phone handsets, including 7.71 million 2G and 12.73 million smartphones, were produced and assembled locally.
Furthermore, according to data from the PTA, 38% of mobile devices on the Pakistan network are 2G, while 62% of mobile devices are smartphones.
