Islamabad, June 9, 2025: According to the Economic Survey 2024-25, Pakistan’s total electricity generation capacity has reached an impressive 46,605 megawatts, showing steady growth in the energy sector.
The report highlights a 717 MW increase in the past year alone. Notably, net metering-based generation has also expanded significantly, now contributing 2,813 MW to the national grid.
Hydropower generation capacity saw a rise from 10,635 MW to 11,368 MW, reflecting continued investment in renewable energy infrastructure.
However, thermal power capacity dropped from 28,766 MW to 25,937 MW, primarily due to the termination of contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Nuclear energy contributes a steady 3,620 MW, while alternative energy sources such as wind and solar have seen remarkable growth — increasing from 2,867 MW to 5,680 MW.
These developments reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources and ensure sustainable power supply across the country.
