Islamabad, Jan 7: In a captivating showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Pakistan’s young squash prodigy, Muhammad Sohail Adnan, clinched the prestigious U-13 title at the 2025 British Junior Open Squash Championship. Adnan’s incredible 3-2 triumph over Egypt’s top-seeded Moez Tamer Elmoghazy — with scores of 11-5, 5-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5 — not only marked his first major international victory but also ended an 18-year drought for Pakistan at this elite tournament.
The victory was a historic moment for Pakistan as its flag was raised on the winners’ podium for the first time since 2007. The last Pakistani to secure this title was Nasir Iqbal, who achieved the feat 18 years ago. Team manager Muhammad Mansoor praised Adnan’s determination and perseverance, calling the win a defining moment in the athlete’s journey. “Today, Adnan fulfilled his destiny,” Mansoor said. “He’s incredibly dedicated, training relentlessly in Lahore despite being away from home. His mental toughness and resilience were crucial in securing this victory. It’s a breakthrough for Pakistan squash after years of Egyptian dominance.”
Adnan’s journey to the championship was nothing short of remarkable. Facing some of the best junior squash players globally, he displayed outstanding skill and unwavering composure throughout the tournament. Even after trailing 2-1 in the final, Adnan mounted a spectacular comeback, winning the last two games to claim the title. His ability to recover after losing the third game demonstrated exceptional mental strength and determination, qualities that bode well for his future in squash.
This milestone has reignited optimism within the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), which sees Adnan’s triumph as a sign of the sport’s revival in the country. “This win is not just a personal achievement for Sohail but a symbol of hope for the resurgence of Pakistan squash on the global stage,” said a PSF representative.
