An opening ceremony of 2nd batch of Thousand Agriculture Graduates under the Capacity Building Initiative in China was held at Chengdu on August 26. The launch marked the onset of three months training of 276 Pakistani agricultural specialists. There are 190 participants to train at Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan, 86 of whom are to train at the Institute of Urban Agriculture in Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Chengdu.
The Chengdu programme focuses on mechanization in agriculture, as well as on processing of fruit and vegetables. The curriculum is also aligned to the Pakistan farming development needs, with a particular emphasis on both practical training and industrial attachment in order to allow the participants to put their training skills into practice.
In the ceremony, Liu Wende, Deputy Director General of CAAS Department of International Cooperation, emphasised the importance of the Chinese-Pakistani agricultural relations and the promise to assist them further. Tanvir A. Bhatti, Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, congratulated the participants and pointed out how the developed procedures will benefit business productivity, increase exports competitiveness, and improve the livelihoods of rural folks.

The signing of the new training agreement was also held with seniors of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan, Tianfu New Area Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau of Sichuan, as well as National Nanfan Research Institute, CAAS in attendance.
This is because the programme has so far continued to foster agricultural knowledge with Pakistani professionals getting to enjoy the latest expertise of China to address the local challenges.
