Islamabad, Sep 30: PCB High-Performance Centres: Sarfaraz, Shoaib, and Waqar Appointed to Lead Key Roles
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed experienced mentors from the recently concluded Champions One-Day Cup to enhance player development throughout the country.
This initiative aims to strengthen domestic cricket and foster emerging talent, with the mentors’ overseeing activities at various PCB High-Performance Centres in key cities.
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will lead the Karachi high-performance academy, while veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik is set to manage the Sialkot academy.
Legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis will take charge of the Lahore academy, and Saqlain Mushtaq will oversee the Multan academy in southern Punjab. Former Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq has been assigned to guide the Faisalabad high-performance center.
These appointments align with PCB’s long-term vision of utilizing former national players to mentor younger generations. The mentors, hired on lucrative contracts prior to the tournament, are expected to significantly elevate cricket standards at the grassroots level.
A PCB official stated that these roles are not limited to tournament periods but involve year-round commitments, including training camps, talent identification, and offering expertise to aspiring players.
This announcement follows the successful Champions One-Day Cup, where Shadab Khan’s Panthers emerged victorious over the Markhors, claiming the inaugural title in a final held at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
