Islamabad, June 10, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently navigating multiple complications as it prepares for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, casting doubts on whether the tournament can progress according to plan. Although the league’s expansion has long been anticipated, several unresolved matters threaten to impact key decisions.
A major obstacle confronting the PCB is the lagging process surrounding the addition of two new teams. While growing the league from six to eight sides seems inevitable, veteran journalist and PCB insider Saleem Khaliq reports that the formal procedure for auctioning the new franchises remains incomplete. Without a clear roadmap on the selection of new cities or franchise owners, vital elements like tournament scheduling, match distribution, and event planning remain in limbo.
The board had earlier established a separate entity specifically tasked with managing PSL operations. However, this structural shift has brought about its own complications. Crucial appointments for senior roles within the new company have yet to be made, leading to administrative slowdowns that are hampering everyday decision-making, particularly those related to organizing the upcoming season.
In addition, there has been no recent reassessment of the league’s financial worth or revenue potential prior to renewing agreements with the original six teams. This has sparked dissatisfaction among stakeholders who believe that current figures are outdated and could jeopardize equitable arrangements—especially with the league’s expansion plans and rising commercial appeal.

The Multan Sultans’ ownership situation adds another layer of complexity. Ali Tareen has already declared he will not extend ownership under the current agreement, leaving the team’s future in question. Until this issue is resolved, it may prove difficult to proceed with offering the new franchises, as the entire team lineup could shift.

From a commercial standpoint, major deals related to title sponsorship, media rights, and production contracts are also due for renewal. These components serve as vital income streams and heavily influence the league’s branding and outreach. Yet, with foundational decisions still pending, the board has been unable to secure any firm agreements with potential partners.
Despite public assurances that PSL 11 will go ahead as planned, the lingering delays suggest there is considerable behind-the-scenes work left to accomplish. The months ahead will be pivotal as the PSL management works against the clock to resolve structural and commercial setbacks, ensuring the tournament maintains its position as Pakistan’s flagship T20 event.
