Islamabad, Nov 16: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced its updated central contracts for 16 women cricketers for the 2024-25 season, effective from July 1, 2024. The new contracts reflect a stronger focus on rewarding recent performances and developing emerging players.
In contrast to the previous two-year contracts awarded to 20 players, this year’s list has been reduced to 16 players. The PCB has introduced new names and adjusted categories to better represent the athletes’ recent contributions on the field.
Key Promotions
Fatima Sana, the team captain, and wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali have been promoted to Category A in recognition of their consistent performances and leadership roles. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal has also been moved to Category B, highlighting her growing importance in the bowling department.
Fresh Faces and Comebacks
Three cricketers have joined the central contract roster:
- Tasmia Rubab: Securing her first-ever central contract, marking a significant step in her career.
- Rameen Shamim: Rejoining the list after a five-year absence since 2018.
- Gull Feroza: Returning after her last inclusion in the 2022-23 season.
These additions showcase PCB’s focus on fostering young talent as the team prepares for a demanding international calendar.
Exclusions from the List
Veteran players like Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, and Sidra Nawaz are among the six cricketers not offered contracts this season. Despite their omission, the PCB assured that these players remain eligible for selection. This move highlights a strategic pivot towards building a younger, more dynamic squad for the future.
Revised Contract Categories
The contracted players are divided into four categories:
: Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin
Nashra Sundhu, Sadia Iqbal
Diana Baig, Omaima Sohail
Ghulam Fatima, Gull Feroza, Najiha Alvi, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tasmia Rubab, Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani
With a packed international schedule ahead, the PCB’s revamped contract system aims to balance talent development and high performance. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to elevate women’s cricket in Pakistan and prepare for the ICC Women’s Future Tours Programme (2025-29).
