Islamabad, Aug 8: Director of Planning and Coordination at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Balochistan Naveed Ahmad Sheikh assured on Thursday that his team is closely monitoring the monsoon rain situation 24/7 hours and conducting assessments of crop damaged to compensate affected farmers.
Talking to PTV news channel, he said that PDMA is identifying and establishing safe places to accommodate people affected by the heavy downpour, adding, with PDMA’s proactive measures, those impacted by the rains can expect timely support and relief mitigating the suffering and financial losses caused by the natural disaster.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Balochistan has been taking proactive measures to ensure public safety amidst the monsoon rains, he said, adding, in addition to monitoring the situation and assessing crop damage, PDMA has been issuing regular weather advisories and updates to keep the public informed.
Furthermore, in light of the hazardous weather conditions, PDMA has notified Section 144 to restrict tourist activities, prioritizing the safety of visitors, he added.This precautionary measure aims to prevent accidents and minimize risks associated with traveling during the monsoon season, he mentioned.
By taking these steps, PDMA is demonstrating its commitment to protecting both the local population and tourists, ensuring that everyone remains safe and informed throughout the duration of the monsoon rains, he highlighted.Naveed Ahmad Sheikh also revealed that the authority is engaged in a multitude of activities to mitigate the impact of the monsoon rains, besides issuing weather advisories and restricting tourist activities, PDMA is conducting comprehensive surveys to assess damages to buildings and infrastructure.
The authority is also collaborating closely with dedicated officials from the Pakistan Army, volunteers, and the National Highway Authority (NHA) to provide timely assistance to citizens affected by the monsoon, he added.Through these coordinated efforts, PDMA aims to ensure a swift and effective response to emergencies, providing relief and support to those in need, Director said.By working together with various stakeholders, PDMA is demonstrating its commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of the people of Balochistan during this challenging time, he concluded.
