The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a new alert over fresh flood in Punjab, and it is anticipated that more than 70,000 cusecs of water will pour in Pakistan by India in coming days. The officials of PDMA emphasized that it is the heavy rainfall in the entire region that has aggravated the situation with Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin receiving the maximum amount of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Ganda Singh Wala water levels have somewhat subsided after a dam breakage in India but dire flood conditions still exist at Head Sulemanki and Head Islam. At Head Marala inflows have increased to 175,000 cusecs, and Chiniot has been to 800,000 cusecs, now falling to 650,000 cusecs. Head Trimu is preparing to receive a gigantic wave of 830,000 cusecs and the increase in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers is threatening the down-stream population. In Head Muhammad Wala, the requirement to sustain urban areas within controlled embankment breaches may be 700,000-800,000 cusecs.
Pakistan-based rescue teams, the PDMA, mobilize more than 800 rescue boats and 13,000 workers with the help of the Pakistan Army. The relief activities are underway, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people in the Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers and hundreds continue to be in the emergency camps at Lahore and other affected regions of the floods. It is a sad fact that there are up to 30 people dead as a result of flood incidents.
