The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a high alert for districts in Upper Punjab following forecasts of torrential rains, thunderstorms, and potential cloudburst events. Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures to stay safe.

According to PDMA, a strong cloud mass with Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) exceeding 2,500 Mg, combined with local orographic effects, has already caused heavy rainfall and flash floods in the Salarzal Valley of Bajaur District, impacting Paskat Khwar. Authorities warn that the system is likely to spread across neighboring regions, heightening the risk of localized heavy showers, flash floods, and cloudbursts.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are advised to remain alert, move to higher ground if needed, and avoid unnecessary travel near rivers or streams. Disruptions to transportation, damage to roads and small bridges, and temporary displacement of communities are possible. Citizens are also encouraged to store safe drinking water in anticipation of supply interruptions.

PDMA has instructed all divisional and deputy commissioners, rescue teams, and related departments to maintain 24-hour monitoring and ensure emergency resources like pumps, lifebuoys, and rescue ropes are readily available. Efficient communication systems via phone, SMS, and local announcements have been set up to disseminate timely weather updates.
