Peshawar, June 2, 2025 — After nearly seven years of delays and administrative inaction, work has finally resumed on the long-awaited Peshawar Ring Road project. Construction has officially begun on the missing 8.7-kilometer link connecting Warsak Road to Nasir Bagh Road, marking a major milestone in the city’s infrastructure development.
Phase-I Construction Underway
The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) confirmed that Phase-I of the Ring Road extension is now in progress. Valued at Rs.9.67 billion, this phase includes the construction of the main road, underpasses, bridges, and utility relocations. The goal is to alleviate traffic congestion, promote well-planned urban expansion, and provide an alternative route for commuters and freight traffic alike.
To streamline implementation, the project has been divided into four separate construction packages. Contracts have already been awarded, and both workforce and heavy machinery have been mobilized on-site.
Project Timeline and Approval
The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) granted formal approval for Phase-I on March 3, 2025, under a non-ADP (Annual Development Programme) arrangement. PDA Director General Naeem Khan stated that tenders for the phase were issued and opened on April 23, 2025. Following the tender process, the Chief Minister directed that construction be completed within six months.
Full financial backing for Phase-I has been secured, ensuring timely execution without funding delays.
Future Phases: Expansion and Electrification
While Phase-I focuses on core road development, Phase-II will include the construction of service roads and flyovers at an estimated cost of Rs.9.65 billion.
Meanwhile, Phase-III will cover electrification and other essential infrastructure, with a dedicated budget of Rs.1.879 billion.
This renewed push for development is expected to significantly improve urban mobility and enhance infrastructure resilience in the provincial capital.
