A citizen has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking a ban on social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok for underage children.

The petition, filed by a citizen named Azam Butt, names the federal government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and other relevant institutions as respondents.

It argues that children are being exposed to inappropriate content on these apps, which is negatively impacting their education and encouraging involvement in unethical activities.

The petitioner further pointed out that many developed countries have already restricted underage children from using such apps, while in Pakistan, the PTA has yet to implement effective measures for child protection.

He urged the court to direct lawmakers to introduce legislation banning the use of these platforms by underage children.
