Islamabad, Aug 2, 2025: The federal government has increased the petroleum levy on both petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs 2.50 per liter. This revision increases the charge on petrol from Rs 75.52 to Rs 78.02 per liter, while diesel’s levy moves up from Rs 74.51 to Rs 77.01 per liter.

Because of this increase, any benefit from the recent reduction in petrol prices has been partially undone. In the case of diesel, had this additional charge not been applied, its price may have decreased instead of going up. People will now continue to experience pressure from high fuel costs.

In addition to this petroleum levy, the government is also collecting a climate support charge of Rs 2.50 per liter on both fuels, adding further weight to consumers expenses.

Just a day ago, petrol saw a cut of Rs 7.54 per liter while diesel went up by Rs 1.48 per liter. Following these changes, the current price of petrol is Rs 264.61 per liter whereas diesel now costs Rs 285.83 per liter.
