ISLAMABAD, JULY17: PIA is in the process of becoming privatized. With a fleet of 34 aircraft, 13 of which are on dry lease, the airline employs 304 people on average per aircraft. 10,323 persons are employed by PIA total; this number consists of 2,924 outsourced labor and 7,399 permanent employees.
A number of issues were brought up at a recent briefing to the Standing Committee on Aviation of the National Assembly. One significant problem is the regulatory body’s financial limitations, which have kept the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) from modernizing antiquated infrastructure at 22 airports throughout the nation.Similar financial issues were also noted by the Airport Security Force (ASF), despite the fact that they are currently purchasing new security equipment.
The committee raised a number of issues that require attention. They questioned the licensure of pilots and aeromedical personnel and pointed out fissures in the Allama Iqbal International Airport parking lot. Private airlines like Air Blue and Air Sial were also warned about their frequent flight delays, in addition to PIA.
Furthermore, the PCAA is in the process of creating new regulations to control drone use. They also intend to install new weather radars and automatic weather stations as part of a World Bank project.By delivering more precise and timely information, these improvements are intended to enhance weather forecasting, which will assist farmers and numerous state ministries. The necessity for improved infrastructure and more effective operations in the aviation sector was brought up during the committee’s discussion. Some of these issues should be resolved by the privatization of PIA, together with the suggested improvements and new rules, which should boost the aviation sector’s overall performance in Pakistan.
