Islamabad, Mar 17, 2025: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is preparing to restart its flight operations to the United Kingdom (UK) after the European Union lifted its long-standing ban.
This announcement was made by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal.
Dr. Faisal confirmed that PIA flights to the UK will officially resume following Eidul Fitr.
Speaking at an Iftar gathering in London attended by journalists and digital influencers, he shared that the initial phase would include direct flights from London and Manchester to Pakistan.
Additionally, authorities are making efforts to reinstate flight services from Birmingham in the near future.
To commemorate the occasion, organizers will hold a special launch ceremony and invite media representatives to cover the event.
PIA Flights to UK
It is worth mentioning that PIA resumed its flights to Paris on January 10, 2024, after a suspension lasting over four years.
The authorities originally enforced the ban in June 2020 after a PIA aircraft crashed in Karachi, sparking controversy over fraudulent pilot licenses.
The revelation by the former Aviation Minister regarding unqualified pilots contributed to the European Union’s stringent measures against PIA.

Meanwhile, the privatization of PIA has gained significant traction, with multiple high-profile business entities expressing interest in acquiring the airline.
According to inside sources, notable business groups such as the Arif Habib Group, Taba Group, and YB Holdings are among the potential investors keen on purchasing PIA.
High-level discussions have reportedly taken place in Islamabad, where these groups have been negotiating acquisition terms with the relevant authorities.
Industry insiders suggest that these groups are eager to move forward with the acquisition if they meet the stipulated conditions.
As privatization efforts progress, the airline plans to restructure and enhance operations to improve service quality and efficiency.
However, a PIA spokesperson, while responding to media inquiries, clarified that the UK High Commissioner has made a statement regarding the airline’s return.
Nonetheless, the actual flight operations will depend on obtaining the necessary approvals from UK aviation authorities before services can officially commence.
The revival of PIA’s UK routes marks a crucial step in the airline’s recovery journey, promising improved connectivity for passengers traveling between Pakistan and the UK.
With privatization efforts underway and operational improvements in sight, PIA aims to regain its reputation as a reliable international carrier.
