Islamabad, 7 May, 2025: According to aviation authorities, PIA Resumes Limited Flights starting from midday, with selected routes to cities across the country set to resume later in the afternoon.
The airline had earlier suspended operations as a safety measure in response to increased hostilities along the India-Pakistan border.
The brief shutdown was prompted by security alerts, which led to a 48-hour closure of Pakistan’s airspace at several major airports, including those in Karachi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Quetta.

While some services are now gradually returning, Islamabad International Airport remains closed for all arrivals and departures. In one example, a Saudi Airlines flight scheduled for Islamabad was rerouted to Karachi.
Security Concerns Behind Airspace Lockdown
Officials clarified that the suspension of flights was part of a wider safety strategy aimed at protecting passengers and staff following recent missile strikes by India on multiple Pakistani cities.
The attacks targeted areas such as Muzaffarabad, Muridke, Kotli, and Bahawalpur, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians and injuries to 46 others, according to military sources.
The Civil Aviation Authority reiterated that the closure was a temporary necessity, stressing that full services would resume once the overall security environment improved.
They also urged passengers to avoid visiting airports unnecessarily and to await confirmation from their airlines regarding updated schedules.
