ISLAMABAD, 27 May, 2025: According to the latest statement issued by the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL), the deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the national carrier’s privatisation has been extended until June 19, 2025. The decision comes in wake of Eid-ul-Azha.

Initially, the Ministry of Privatization and the Privatization Commission had denoted June 3 as the deadline for submission of bids from domestic and international investors for acquiring a majority stake, starting at 51 percent shares in PIA. Now the interested bidders may be able to submit their bids until 16:00 hours on Thursday, June 19, 2025. All other terms and conditions for the privatisation process are same.

PIACL is currently majority-owned by the government, with PIA Holding Company Limited holding nearly 96 percent of the airline’s capital.

Prior to this, PIA’s privatization attempts have also been through a failed attempt, with only one bidder remaining by the bidding date – Blue World City consortium, and that too with Rs. 10 billion bid for a 60 percent stake, much lower than the benchmark valuation of Rs. 85.03 billion as determined by the government of Pakistan.
