Islamabad, July 22, 2025: Abbottabad University and the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) have agreed to begin the area first project using plastic waste to build roads. This step is part of the Abbottabad Smart City plan.

Professor Dr. Tahir Irfan Khan shared that the “Abbottabad Smart City: Eco-Friendly Renewable Technology Initiative” is the first of its kind project in Pakistan. The plan include constructing roads using plastic waste and other eco-friendly materials. This move is an important step toward building green and sustainable infrastructure in the area.

While speaking at the event, he further said progress in education should go hand in hand with local development. He appreciated the teamwork between the TMA Abbottabad and PIPS College of Pharmacy. He also mentioned the role of the university’s IMMME and Administration departments in helping the project move forward.

TMO Mian Shafiqur Rehman also shared his views, praising the university for taking the lead. He said that the TMA will fully support the idea and work together with the university to make the city cleaner and greener.

At the end of the event, shields were given to Vice Chancellor Dr. Khan, TMO Mian Shafiqur Rehman, the Registrar, Director of Administration, and Sheikh Mahmood, Managing Director of PIPS College of Pharmacy, for their efforts in starting this important project.
