He stated that the whole nation stands proud of his achievement and expressed confidence that Pakistan will, God willing, reclaim its once-dominant position.
The historic win from Zaman came on April 10 at Karachi’s DHA Creek Club, where he defeated Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey in a dramatic five-game final.
Trailing 0-2, the Peshawar native staged a remarkable comeback to win 3-2, claiming his first world title and Pakistan’s first global squash event in over two decades.
Throughout the tournament, Zaman showed both skill and composure, beating opponents from France, Poland, and Kuwait with relative ease.

The Peshawar-born athlete advanced to the final after Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran withdrew from their semi-final match due to illness.
In the final, El Torkey—who had earlier defeated the top seed—presented a serious challenge. Yet, Zaman’s determination proved stronger.
His victory not only secured a personal milestone but also sparked national celebration and renewed hope for a sport that once saw Pakistan as a world leader.
The remarks from the Prime Minister reflect growing optimism about squash legacy, built by legends like Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, may yet be revived through the new generation.
