Islamabad, Feb 12: The federal government has established a seven-member inquiry committee to assess the financial and reputational damages resulting from former Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan’s remarks on alleged fake licenses of PIA pilots. As per the official notification, Prime Minister has formed this committee under the leadership of Minister for Defence and Aviation Khawaja Asif.
The committee includes key officials such as the Federal Minister for Finance, Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Secretary of the Law and Justice Division, CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Additionally, the Defence Division will act as the secretariat, ensuring administrative and logistical support for the committee’s operations.
The primary objective of the committee is to examine the impact of Ghulam Sarwar Khan’s controversial statement in the National Assembly, where he highlighted the issue of fake pilot licenses within PIA. The committee will assess the financial losses incurred by the national exchequer due to this statement, along with its repercussions on Pakistan’s aviation industry, international standing, and trust in regulatory institutions.

Furthermore, the inquiry will determine the extent of damage caused to PIA’s reputation, passenger confidence, and international airline agreements. The committee has been tasked with formulating a comprehensive report outlining its findings, which will be presented to the federal cabinet within four weeks, as per the defined Terms of Reference (TORs).
This investigation aims to bring clarity to the issue while holding responsible parties accountable for any unwarranted economic and reputational damage inflicted upon the aviation sector.
