Islamabad, Mar 14 2025: PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a decisive crackdown on sugar hoarders and those manipulating prices through artificial shortages. Chairing a high-level meeting on Friday.
He emphasized that the government would not tolerate speculative price hikes and directed authorities to take stringent action against those responsible for creating market disruptions.
The premier instructed officials to closely monitor the supply and demand of sugar, ensuring that it remains available to the public at fixed rates. PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need for continuous engagement with sugar mills to prevent unjustified price surges.
Highlighting the importance of price stability during the holy month of Ramazan, the prime minister made it clear that exploitative practices would not be allowed to burden the common man.

He directed the chief secretaries of all four provinces to ensure the uninterrupted supply of sugar at government-set prices and to take immediate action against any violations.
During the meeting, federal ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, along with Special Assistant to the PM Haroon Akhtar and other senior officials, were present.
The chief secretaries of the provinces also participated via video link, providing updates on sugar supply, demand, and prevailing market rates.
The prime minister further instructed authorities to present a comprehensive report following the crackdown on hoarders and price manipulators.
With Ramazan underway, he reiterated the government’s commitment to shielding citizens from market exploitation, ensuring that essential commodities remain accessible at fair prices.
