Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, has instructed officials to select the top attorneys to take on cases that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is facing in several courts and tribunals.
The premier said that he will personally chair weekly review sessions to oversee ongoing changes and income production inside the FBR. He made this announcement while chairing a meeting today in Islamabad to discuss important concerns with the tax apparatus.
To speed the adjudication of tax-related matters, Shehbaz proposed for the establishment of Customs Appellate Tribunals and Inland Revenue Appellate Tribunals. Additionally, he pushed for the development of a plan to recognize and honor deserving officers in the FBR.
It was reported to the meeting that the process of creating Inland Revenue Appellate Tribunals had already commenced. The appointment of judges to these tribunals shall be carried out through an open written examination procedure.
