Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has left for Ankara on a two-day visit to Turkey at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will discuss bilateral relations as well as recent global and regional developments with President Erdogan.
As long-standing allies and strategic partners, Pakistan and Turkey maintain a tradition of regular high-level exchanges, which reflect the extraordinary bonds of brotherhood between the two countries.
The two countries have also established a leadership-level mechanism in the form of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) for cooperation and coordination on various issues of mutual interest.
The 7th meeting of the HLSCC was held in Islamabad on 12-13 February 2025.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif co-chaired the 7th meeting.
The upcoming meeting represents a continuation of this strong dialogue and highlights the shared commitment to further elevate the multifaceted partnership between Pakistan and Turkey.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Wallah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi are also accompanying the Prime Minister.
Pakistan-Turkey Strengthening Economic Ties
Recent years have seen a significant enhancement in the economic relationship between Pakistan and Turkey, reflecting a mutual desire to expand trade, investment, and collaboration in key sectors.
The two countries have made strides in strengthening their economic partnership through various initiatives, with trade and investment emerging as key areas of focus.
A landmark development is the Pakistan-Turkey Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which aims to increase bilateral trade by eliminating tariffs and promoting economic cooperation.

This agreement is expected to boost trade volumes, particularly in sectors like textiles, machinery, and chemicals, where both countries have competitive advantages.

In addition to trade and investment, both countries have explored joint ventures in defense production, technology, and agriculture.
