Islamabad, May 22, 2025: With Pakistan’s budget for fiscal year 2025-26 just days away, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed meeting with a high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Director Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD) Jihad Azour to review the country’s ongoing economic reform agenda under the Fund’s programme.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, was also attended by key federal ministers including Ahad Khan Cheema and Muhammad Aurangzeb. Secretary Finance Imdadullah Bosal, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, and other senior officials were also present.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the discussions were focused on the ongoing IMF programme in Pakistan. Both sides reviewed the progress made so far, expressing satisfaction with the government’s implementation of reforms and the positive economic outcomes that have followed.

“By the grace of God, Pakistan is moving towards development after economic stability,” PM Shehbaz remarked. He further emphasized that while macroeconomic reforms are crucial, the government is equally committed to accelerating structural and institutional reforms to ensure long-term growth.

The IMF delegation, in response, acknowledged the steps taken by Pakistan and reaffirmed the Fund’s continued support in helping the country achieve economic stability and sustained development.

Pakistan is set to announce the Federal Budget FY26 on June 02, 2025.
