Islamabad, Feb 5: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed relevant authorities to reinstate the Green Channel initiative to provide better facilities for overseas Pakistanis.
Speaking at the Overseas Pakistanis Global Foundation Convention, the prime minister expressed his sincere appreciation for the invaluable contributions of Pakistanis living abroad. He acknowledged their dedication to the nation’s progress and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving their concerns.
PM Shehbaz directed the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development to reintroduce the Green Channel initiative, ensuring smoother immigration and customs procedures. Additionally, he announced the formation of a special committee to recognize and honor distinguished diaspora members who contribute significantly to national development.
Emphasizing their role as Pakistan’s global ambassadors, the prime minister assured expatriates that their voices would be heard at the highest levels. “We are fully committed to addressing your challenges and ensuring that your concerns are resolved efficiently,” he stated.

He highlighted that the Green Channel initiative, originally launched by former PM Nawaz Sharif, had been a major step toward facilitating seamless travel for overseas Pakistanis. “We are bringing it back to ease your journey. Your engagement and support will be key to its success,” he added.
PM Shehbaz lauded the efforts of overseas Pakistanis in various sectors, acknowledging their hard work, honesty, and dedication. He recognized their significant role in strengthening the national economy, particularly through remittances. “Pakistan has witnessed a 30% increase in remittances, which has directly strengthened our foreign exchange reserves,” he remarked.
Furthermore, the prime minister praised overseas professionals who, after acquiring world-class skills abroad, are now contributing as investors, entrepreneurs, and experts in Pakistan. “Your expertise and financial investments are shaping the future of our economy,” he noted.
In line with the government’s efforts to safeguard the interests of overseas Pakistanis, PM Shehbaz highlighted Punjab’s dedicated department for expatriate affairs. Under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, the initiative has successfully reclaimed properties from illegal occupiers, offering vital legal support to overseas citizens.
The event also featured a tribute to the armed forces by renowned singer Ustad Rafaqat Ali Khan, which PM Shehbaz highly appreciated.
Addressing security concerns, the prime minister emphasized Pakistan’s ongoing battle against terrorism. He paid tribute to the brave soldiers who recently lost their lives in Balochistan operations, reaffirming the nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.
With a strong focus on facilitating and empowering overseas Pakistanis, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening ties with the diaspora and ensuring their interests are well-protected.
