Islamabad, Feb 23: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a two-day state visit to Azerbaijan from February 24-25, aiming to bolster economic and trade ties between the two nations. The visit, undertaken at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, marks Shehbaz’s second official trip to Baku since assuming office in March 2024.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the prime minister will engage in wide-ranging discussions focusing on trade, energy, defence, education, and climate cooperation. The visit is expected to witness the signing of multiple agreements and MoUs, reinforcing economic collaboration between the two countries.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a strong strategic and economic relationship, with Azerbaijan emerging as a key trade and investment partner for Pakistan. As part of the visit, Shehbaz will deliver a keynote speech at a Business Forum, organized in partnership with Azerbaijan’s Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO). This forum aims to attract investments, explore trade opportunities, and strengthen economic connectivity between the two nations.
Additionally, the prime minister, alongside President Ilham Aliyev, will visit Fuzuli in the Karabakh region, a territory recently liberated by Azerbaijan. This symbolic visit underscores Pakistan’s diplomatic support for Azerbaijan and highlights the growing bilateral engagement beyond economic ties.
Shehbaz Sharif’s visit reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to expanding trade relations, enhancing investment opportunities, and fostering stronger cooperation with Azerbaijan in key sectors. With both countries seeking mutual economic growth, the trip is poised to open new avenues for collaboration and strategic partnerships.
