Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a series of Chitral development projects during his visit to the northern district on Friday, promising major improvements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The initiatives aim to transform the remote region and provide better facilities for residents.
Under the development plan, Sharif unveiled the establishment of a Danish School in Chitral. The school is set to provide free education, boarding, and lodging for underprivileged and orphaned children, offering them opportunities to compete at the national level.
In addition to the school, the prime minister announced plans for a new university in Upper Chitral. The institution will bring higher education closer to residents, reducing the need to travel long distances for advanced studies.
Healthcare improvements are also a priority. Sharif pledged the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital, ensuring better medical services in the region, which has long struggled with limited access to quality healthcare.
Infrastructure projects were highlighted, with the completion of the Chitral-Shandoor Road expected by 2026. This road will improve connectivity with Gilgit-Baltistan, facilitating travel and trade in the region.

The revival of the Chitral Gas Plant Project, previously delayed, was another key announcement. The project aims to provide a reliable energy supply to residents, alongside the introduction of a uniform electricity tariff in Upper Chitral to address erratic power supply and high electricity costs.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the Federal Minister for Communications and Energy would personally oversee the implementation of these projects, ensuring timely completion and effective delivery of services.
