The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warns of heavy rains, potential flooding, and landslides in Punjab, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from September 1 to 3.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds across northeastern Punjab, Kashmir and parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the evening of September 1st through September 3rd.

According to PMD, urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Hafizabad due to intense rainfall. In Kashmir and surrounding areas such as Jammu, Bhimber, Mirpur, Kotli, Poonch and Haveli. There is a high risk of landslides and flash flooding in local streams and nullahs.

Forecast Highlights:

  • Monday & Tuesday (Sep 1–2): Rain with thunderstorms and strong winds is expected at several places in Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy downpours are likely at isolated locations.
  • Rest of the Country: Hot and dry weather is expected to prevail.

Over the past 24 hours, several regions in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan experienced moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The highest recorded rainfall was in Saidu Sharif (26mm), followed by Balakot (25mm) and Malam Jabba (24mm). In Kashmir, Garhi Dupatta also received 24mm, while Muzaffarabad recorded 11mm in the city and 7mm at the airport. In Punjab, Gujranwala received 19mm, Kasur and Khanewal 12mm each and Lahore saw 11mm at the airport and 9mm in the city. Other notable figures include Muree (11mm), Gujrat (5mm), Narowal (5mm), Sialkot City (4mm) and Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chilas, which received 8mm of rain.

The advisory also warns of potential damage to weak infrastructure including mud houses, boundary walls, electric poles, billboards, solar panels and vehicles due to gusty winds and lightning. Travelers and tourists are advised to plan their journeys with caution and stay updated on local weather conditions.
