Islamabad, 15, May, 2025: PMDC has introduced a one-time adjustment to its medical admission policy, enabling students with second division marks to apply for MBBS and BDS programs.

This policy shift, is designed to help private medical and dental colleges avoid leaving seats unfilled for the upcoming academic session.

At the beginning of the notification, it was reiterated that PMDC has taken this step in response to persistent challenges faced by private institutions in securing sufficient enrollment.

The council’s updated criteria lower the minimum academic requirement for applicants, making medical education accessible to a broader pool of candidates.

Revised Eligibility Thresholds Announced

According to the revised policy, students with at least 50% marks in intermediate examinations are now deemed eligible to apply for MBBS programs. For BDS admissions, the minimum qualifying percentage has been reduced to 45%.

In a further concession, PMDC has stated that if seats remain vacant after these revised standards are applied, even candidates with marks below these thresholds may be granted admission, subject to college discretion and seat availability.

Officials have clarified that this change is intended as a PMDC one-time waiver, specifically for private sector colleges, and does not apply to government medical institutions or future admission cycles.

Aim: To Avoid Wastage of Seats

The initiative comes as private medical and dental colleges in Pakistan continue to face difficulties in filling seats, particularly due to high academic entry barriers and financial challenges.

By relaxing entry requirements temporarily, the council hopes to bridge the gap between capacity and demand without compromising overall academic integrity.

Education analysts have indicated that while the move may raise concerns about maintaining quality, it offers an opportunity for capable but previously ineligible students to pursue careers in healthcare.

The revised policy is expected to take effect in the upcoming admission cycle, with further details to be provided directly to colleges and applicants through official PMDC channels.
