Pakistani students planning to stay and work in Poland after their studies should take note of new immigration and visa changes that came into effect on July 1, 2025. The Polish government has tightened its work visa rules, making the process longer for foreign nationals.

Earlier, international students in Poland or those holding long-term visas from any Schengen country could directly apply for a Single Permit — a document that combines work and residence rights. But under the new rule, this shortcut is gone. Now, if you want to start a job in Poland, you must first get a Polish national work visa before applying for a Single Permit.

This step is now mandatory for:

  • Foreign students on a Polish student visa,
  • Those with a long-term visa from any other Schengen country,
  • Or anyone holding a residence card from another EU state.

What Is a Single Permit?

A Single Permit allows foreign workers to live and work in Poland legally without applying separately for a work permit and residence card. It’s popular with students and expats because it saves time. But now, the new process makes it clear — you can’t go straight from student visa to Single Permit anymore.

Who Doesn’t Need This?

If you’re applying for an EU Blue Card (for highly skilled workers), this rule does not apply. Blue Card applicants can still go through the old process without needing an extra work visa first.

What Should Pakistani Students Do?

Be ready for extra paperwork and time. You must apply for a D-type national work visa in your home country first. To get it, you’ll need:

  • A valid passport,
  • Filled visa form,
  • Job offer or work contract,
  • Proof of accommodation and health insurance,
  • Clean criminal record,
  • Financial proof that you can stay and return.

You can apply at the nearest Polish embassy or consulate. It’s better to apply early because processing can take time.

For Pakistani students hoping to work in Poland, knowing these new rules is key. Missing any step could delay your plans or cost you a job offer. Always check the latest updates and start your paperwork well before your current visa ends.
