Islamabad, 12 May,2025: A Polish cyclist, Paweł Małaszko, has reached a major milestone in his attempt to complete a solo bicycle journey from Karachi to the K2 base camp — a feat never achieved before.
The 46-year-old adventurer resumed his final stretch from Skardu on Sunday, having already covered more than 3,250 kilometers across Pakistan.
Małaszko began the journey in April and aims to reach the base of the world’s second-highest mountain entirely on his own, without any external help.
He has dubbed his journey the “K2 Base Camp Bike Expedition”, calling it one of the most demanding challenges of his life.

While speaking to local media earlier, he had noted the physical and mental difficulty of the route, stating that if successful, he would be the first person ever to cycle the entire stretch to the K2 base camp independently.
The final part of his route — roughly 200 kilometers from Skardu to the base camp — includes dangerous terrain, glaciers, and narrow mountain passes.
Małaszko estimated this last phase would take around 14 days to complete. He mentioned that certain parts of the trek are impassable by bike, and during those sections, he plans to carry his bicycle on his back, without support.
He intends to document and share how much distance he covered on foot with the bike after the expedition.

Legal issues had briefly stalled his journey when the Gilgit-Baltistan tourism department suspended trekking permits due to a dispute with local tour operators.
However, the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court eventually ruled in Małaszko’s favor, allowing him to continue with his mission.
From the scorching plains of southern Pakistan to the snow-covered peaks in the north, Małaszko has faced extreme weather conditions.
Despite the physical strain, he has expressed deep appreciation for the kindness and generosity shown by the people along the way, describing Pakistan as a land of rich culture, welcoming faces, and stunning natural beauty.
