Islamabad, Apr 21, 2025: In a solemn announcement from the Vatican, it was confirmed that Pope Francis has passed away peacefully on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
The revered leader of the Catholic Church took his final breath at his home in Casa Santa Marta, located within Vatican City.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who serves as the camerlengo of the Vatican, shared the somber news with the public, stating, “At exactly 7:35 this morning, the Holy Father, Francis, departed this world and entered the eternal embrace of our Heavenly Father.
Throughout his life, he remained wholeheartedly devoted to the mission of Christ and the spiritual guidance of the Church.”
He continued, “Pope Francis showed us how to embody the Gospel through unwavering faith, fearless compassion, and boundless love — especially for those who suffer and are often overlooked by society.
With deep appreciation for his commitment as a loyal follower of Jesus Christ, we entrust his spirit to the endless mercy and love of the Holy Trinity.”
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, was known globally for his humility, progressive views, and emphasis on serving the poor and downtrodden.
His papacy broke many traditions, emphasizing outreach, unity, and compassion across all faiths and communities.
He was the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit to assume the papacy.
