Islamabad, Aug 29: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted that a probable cyclone that formed over the Rann of Kutch in India would likely develop along the coast of Sindh late tonight or early on Friday morning.
Over the past twelve hours, the deep depression over the Rann of Kutch, India, has steadily migrated west-southwest and is currently located around 270 km east/southeast of Karachi at latitude 23.7 N and longitude 69.5 E.By late Friday morning or late Saturday night, the system is probably going to shift west/southwest and emerge along the coast of Sindh into the northeast Arabian Sea.
The system is expected to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm (CS) on Friday and proceed initially in a west/southwest direction due to favorable environmental circumstances, sea surface temperature, low/moderate vertical wind shear, and upper-level divergence.
Widespread rain/wind-thunderstorms are predicted to affect the districts of Tharparker, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tandu Muhammad Khan, Tandu Allah Yar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad, as well as the Karachi division, until August 31 with sporadic gaps. The precipitation is expected to range from scattered heavy-very heavy to isolated extremely heavy. It’s likely that the sea will stay rough to extremely rough with squally winds of 50–60 km/h. It is recommended that fisherman hold off on going out to sea until August 31. The PMD’s cyclone warning center in Karachi is keeping an eye on the system and will provide an update as necessary.
